Created By Avon (c) in 1974 they called it “Queens Ransom”. It certainly does look befitting of Royalty, don't you think?
Generously adorned with 4 flat back glass cabochons to simulate a Ruby, Turquoise, Pearl and an Emerald. These stones are placed diagonally across the lid with the rest of the Treasure chest is adorned with intricate gold tone twisted wire to accent the diagonal “gems” on the lid and outline the chest top. Twisted wire single stem Roses with leaves fill the front and back corners, while various flowers and fawns fill the front and back panels.
It is nearly impossible to tell if the twisted wire was cast with the box or actually added by hand. Yes, that is just how detailed and lovely this, “Pill Box or Charm Necklace” as declared by Avon, actually is.
All of this beauty hangs form a 33” long chain ( end to end, open ) which hangs to 16 1/2” and is attached to the top of the chest by a large bolted ring. The Strong Box itself (closed lid) is 1/2” high (approx.13mm) 7/8” wide ( approx.22mm) and 5/8” deep (approx.15mm) The “lock” of the chest holds securely even today.
But hold on, there is a little bit more to this listing. You see my Mother sold Avon as an aside for years and did rather well with it. One thing she liked to do was enhance the possibilities of her samples for her ladies when she did a showing.
In this case, she actually filled the locket with “Treasure”! She would say, “Anyone can fill this chest with pills, however I think a Queens Ransom should actually be inside.” as she passed this locket about the room.
All gems in my photo's will come with this locket upon purchase. Please understand they are not original to this treasure box, and are not real stones. They are simply some lovely faux gems mom collected over the years from various makers and designers. I would simply like to see this ransom continue on with the chest in case the Queen should ever need to pay it. Please don't feel you must also take the stones if you should not want them. I can easily remove all trace of them if you wish.
Condition of the Queens Ransom Chest is Excellent Vintage. There are no scratches or marks to be seen, all metal is bright and clean and all Cabochons are in perfect unmarred condition. To be sure, it is as lovely as the day it was made and people will ask you where you got your beautiful new locket.
No need to take my word for any of this as you are never saddled with a purchase you do not want. Do read all information about my Returns Policy in the drop down to the right of this page called 'Terms Of Sale'. I am always happy to answer questions so don't be shy.
