Vintage 50s Crescent Moon Accent Pin
This wonderful little Accent Pin is a piece of unsigned costume jewelry that was also called a scatter pin. Measuring only 7/8” high and 6/8” wide it packs a good bit of texture and sparkle into its small space.
The outside of the crescent is lined with 10 faux seed pearls that take on an almost luminous glow in bright light. Each has been set into a gold colored cup like setting with 6 rounded prongs keeping its contents encircled, the inside of the crescent is also covered in these settings but these are instead filled with 6 Teal Green (some would call it Aquamarine Green) faceted stones. The joining of the pronged settings also creates spaces of irregular size and shape, which to my eye are the craters of a pock marked moon. And dare I say it, when looking the blue green of the stones could be saying that “The moon is made of green cheese” ?
Turning the pin over we see quite a bit of wire reinforcement and puddling of solder to hold each of the individual settings in place, an indication of well made costume jewelry and a well anchored thumb C clasp and pin. Note that the pin end does come past the C clasp so do take care when you put it on.
Condition is excellent vintage. All stones and faux seed pearls are intact. There is no loss of the heavy gold colored plating that I can detect, and no anomalies to be seen. Some of the stones do appear to be askew slightly in the settings. This is perfectly normal in some vintage costume jewelry that was hand set by gluing and is undetectable when seen with the unaided eye. All of my photographs are close-up high-resolution so that you can see more here in my photos than you can holding it in your hand at home. So do consider this when you look are deciding.
