Late 1950s Clear Faceted Stone Bar style Brooch
Bling was the thing in the 40s, and 50s and this pin certainly fills that bill. This was one of Catherine's “fun bits” and while the photographs are less than magazine quality, I can assure you that this pin has all the sparkle and dazzle it ever did.
Your pin, which measures slightly over 1 1/2” long and 2/8” wide is comprised of 16 round 4 mm Brilliant cut stones each prong set side by side in two rows of 8 on either side of one large 7 mm Emerald Cut Sparkling clear center stone. Which makes this pin a 17 stone bling fest.
Each stone is prong set in it's own silver colored setting, and each setting has been hand soldered to the next. On the back we can see some of the solder puddles and that the one piece pin set has also been soldered to the entire piece. It is unsigned, but made quite well.
CONDITION: All stones are original and present. All are foil backed and extremely bright. Any dark you see in my pictures in the stones Is me and my camera. That is how bright and reflective they are. The pin stem does have a slight bend to it from being used on too heavy fabric at one time or other. But over all condition is Excellent Vintage.
FYI: The secret to keeping this kind of jewelry sparkling is to never immerse in any liquid. It deteriorates the foil backing and will eventually turn dark, there is no fix for lost silvering on stones. Catherine knew this and none of her jewelry ever had more than a light cleaning with a moist cloth. I find a small soft paintbrush of natural fibers does wonders too.
