My In-laws, like everyone else in the 60s and 70s that could vacation in Hawaii did just that. One of the items Catherine brought back with her as a souvenir was this now Vintage Hawaiian Mother-Of-Pearl hand carved broach and earrings set. I understand from my Fred they (he and his parents) stood and watched the Pin being carved, and what an intricate beauty it is too. Carved from the inside of harvested pearl bearing molluscs , the iridescent brooch and earrings took less than half an hour to create, but what beauty this gift from Mother Earth holds.
Measuring 1 7/8” wide and 7/8” high this Carved oval has so much going on it is sure to catch everyone's eye when seen. A Solid central oval of white shimmer is surrounded by another tiny hashed oval encircling the first. Then we see 12 hand chased leaves bounding forth from that inner broken oval. Each leaf is then surrounded by even more intricate carving of lacy design outlining those leaves and culminating in the entire outer rim of this marvelous piece of workmanship. The thumb clasp and pin mechanism is securely glued in place as it has been since its making.
The less adorned but still as polished and iridescent as the day they were made screw-back earrings that go with this pin are unmarked made of a bright gold-toned metal. The simple thick oval disks in them measure 7/8” high and 1/2” wide. The shimmering colors are simply wonderful in them.
Celebrating Earth day today, April 20th I am pricing these at an unbelievably low price. To help draw awareness to the need to sustain our precious planet, and to remind everyone that sustainable resources need to be cared for if you don't want them to go away forever. These will stay at this excellent price until they have sold.
