While S. Kirk & Son had been in business since 1815 when Samuel first opened his shop, this hand Chased (engraved) Sterling pin from the Baltimore Maryland Silversmith is from between 1932 and 1979. The last year (1979) being when the business was sold to The Stieff Company. Dating of S. Kirk & Son Sterling can be a daunting task, it can accurately be done. Such as knowing that the word Sterling was only used after 1914, or that the mark of S. Kirk & Son was used twice during the long company history, but both are from very different time periods.
Measuring 1 5/8” across, with the engraved band being 2/8” wide. It is beautifully hand carved with flowers, leaves and flourishes. I have dated it further by the closing mechanism on the back to be from between the 40s – 60s. However I honestly believe it to be from the earlier estimate and not the later date.
Condition: Excellent Vintage. The front of the piece shows little to no wear and the slight marks on the back are just that, slight and practically undetectable by the unaided eye. I do take close up High Resolution Photographs so you can see detail. Any marks on the back can easily be polished away by a reputable Jeweler.
The thumb clasp holds securely and while there is a slight movement in the pin bar, It very well may have been as designed. This truly is a finely executed piece of craftsmanship.
I have lightly polished it for the pictures, and it can be shined further should you desire. This would make a wonderful gift, or simply a great addition to your jewelry box.
My Jewelry will come to you Boxed (noted above if original) and in a beautiful lace or beaded presentation pouch. I take care when I ship, these are family treasures I am passing on to you.
