In almost perfect condition as this Glace Pendant is, the Avon Honor Award President's Campaign of 1966 is very hard to find.
It features the first Avon Lady, Mrs. P.F.E. Albee in period clothing from around 1860 carrying her sample case mounted on what I believe to be faux Jasper. Mrs. Albee is nicely detailed in some form of white plastic. This is placed in the center of the Locket/Glace perfume pendant and surrounded by 6 rows of what is to portray braided rope.
Upon opening the pendant we see engraved on the inside of the lid the words “Honor Award President's Campaign 1966”. There, in the bottom, a bright clean receptacle where the Perfume Glace “Unforgettable” was kept.
I want to say here that when I inherited this from my mother's estate it still had the glace in it with the covering paper. The paper was deteriorating and turning the glace hard as most of the oils had leached into the paper. I am sorry, but I thought it best to remove and clean the perfume locket. It had no “refillable” receptacle as some of the Avon Pins do for this kind of scent fashion. However it does still retain the original sticker on the back in excellent condition. Also the inside of the locket has a delicate lite smell of the Unforgettable glace that reminds, me at least, of a younger self.
The sticker on the back as I said is in perfect condition and reads: Avon Prod. Inc. / UNFORGETTABLE / New York, N.Y. The entire locket is 1 7/8” long from the attached bail to the bottom and 1 3/8” wide. It is attached to a ½ inch jump ring or clip as it could be detached from locket and chain.
The original chain, extension chain and pine cone weight are also hard to come by with this particular piece of Avon history. The chain is quite long and adjustable from 13” to 15” when closed. So the entire necklace will hang between 15 3/8" and 17 3/8".
Condition: Save for the perfume glace, this President's Award is in original condition and I could detect only one flaw in the metal, on the “J” hook which can be replaced easily if desired. It has lost its plating on about 1/8 of an inch of the down curve on the outside and a very small amount of verdigris is present. This can be seen in the last photo here.
For a collector of Avon Award Memorabilia this is truly a find. When researching I found no other on line in as good or as complete condition as this is. All metal except for the “J” hook as stated is in bright condition. I take extreme closeups, and the black color on the crosshatch pattern inside is my camera. The lighter blue color in my photo's is closer to the blue on the faux jasper. However when capturing the color I lost the detail of Mrs. Albee, so I have shown both shots in my photo's.
Insurance is included in the shipping cost and like all of my jewelry it will arrive boxed and inside a beautiful embroidered or beaded presentation bag. (this usually depends on what I have in stock and the size of the item.) I wrap and ship my jewelry very carefully, which is the way my mother cared for her things. And I am happy to give this sweet pendant a new home with you.
