This is a very lovely sterling handled button hook. The hook is metal. It was made by the Whiting Manufacturing Company and dates to around 1893. The pattern is Louis XV. It would have been used to close buttons on shoes and gloves and other uses. The design is slightly ornate and very attractive.
It measures approximately 6 ½” in length and ½” wide.
It is monogrammed on one side with initials that look like A D P.
The handle is marked Sterling and has the numbers 3995 and the date 1893. There is some more information on the handle but the markings are worn and too hard to decipher.
It is in very nice condition with some minor wear that is commensurate with the age and use of the hook.
