This is a very attractive and elegant crystal colored footed bowl with a ruffled edge made by Viking. This very popular pattern is called Prelude and was made from the 1940's through the 1980's. It has flowers, leaves, vines and a large stylized flower that rather mimics an elongated wreath.
It is in good condition except for a chip on the edge of one of the feet.
It measures approximately 10" in diameter and is 3" high.
During the 1940's many glass companies were having great difficulties surviving because of hardships caused by the war. Many went under or merged with other companies. The New Martinsville Glass Company founded in West Virginia during 1901 and noted for their beautiful colored glass was acquired by the Viking Glass Company, known for their pressed glass, during 1944. The merged company survived and continued doing business until it finally closed it doors during 1998.
