This is a beautiful Early American Pattern Glass (EAPG) love bird finial lid for a compote in the hard to find Flower Band Pattern. This pattern is also known as Frosted Flower Band and as Bird Finial. The manufacturer is unknown but the American Pattern Glass Society believes that the manufacturer may have been Gillinder & Sons.

The pieces in this pattern frequently have a wide frosted band decorated with flowers or fruits. The foot on these pieces is usually trimmed with the oak leaf and acorn motif. The finial on this lid or cover has two frosted glass love birds.

The lid measures 4 1/2” high to the top of the finial and 6 1/4” in diameter. Inside rim is 5 1/4”.

There is a small chip on the inside rim of the lid and there is a rough spot on the tip of one of the bird’s wings. There are no other chips, cracks or discoloration.
