This book is a fabulous find and contains a treasure trove of information about early New Jersey culture, life, art and legends. The title is "The Folklore and Folklife of New Jersey". It was written by David Steven Cohen with a foreword by Herbert Halpert. It was published by Rutgers University Press, New Brunswick, NJ in 1983. The book contains over 50 black illustrations including many New Jersey folk art paintings. It is a hard cover book with green cloth boards and retains its original dust jacket. The book is in good condition. There is some shelf wear on the cover and mild bumping on the corners. The dust jacket shows some wear and a few tears. The book includes folklore, the Jersey Joke, Lenape Indian Myth, names, folk speech, legends, folk belief, folk medicine, folk music, song and dance. Part two includes folk painting, sculpture, boats, architecture, furniture, quilts, coverlets, samplers, pottery, basketry, glass, food, games and recreation, festivals, ceremonies, and rituals.
