This is a wonderful old insurance company magazine called “News from Home”. It is the March, 1949 Edition. The cover has a scene with Early Fire Fighters Rescuing a Child from Burning Building. The cover illustration was reproduced from a colored lithograph, probably made about 1848. The magazine was edited by Kenneth H. Dunshee. It was published by the Home Fleet of Insurance Companies, 59 Maiden Lane, New York.
This issue features a play from 1948, “Mose the Fire B’hoy” which gave tribute to the many heroic volunteer firefighters of the day.
There is a drawing of the Park Theatre facing New York’ City Hall Park which housed Engine Company No.4.
There are two pages of photographs of famous actors such as Edwin Booth, John Barrymore, William Gillette, Ethel Barrymore, Lily Langtry, Sarah Bernhardt, Helen Hayes, Lillian Russell, W. C. Fields, Charlie Chaplin, Will Rogers, Bill Robinson and more.
There are prints of drawings of devastating fires from the 1800’s.
There are articles about the early days of theatre and fires that broke out during performances.
There are many nice old photos and old theatre posters in this issue.
The magazine is full of interesting articles and fabulous old photos.
The back cover includes a picture of the castle in Sleepy Hollow and an interesting article about its history.
The magazine does show wear and use and there is some deterioration on the edges of the cover, but is in overall good condition.
It measures approximately 12” by 8 ¾”.
This is a great collectible for anyone who likes to collect art, magazines, ephemera, firefighting memorabilia or old news articles.
