This is an attractive porcelain shaving mug decorated with gold laurel leaves around the center and inscribed in gold lettering "Geo. W. Oviatt”. The mug is cylindrical with a shaped base, rolled rim, and loop handle. It is impressed on the bottom with the letter L or Y. It dates to around the late1800’s to early 1900’s.

It is in nice antique condition with expected wear on the gold gilding. There are remnants of an old label on the bottom. There are no chips or cracks.

The mug measures approximately 3 1/2” high and 3 1/2” in diameter.

Personalized shaving mugs were a common sight in early barbershops, and they sometimes included occupational imagery. Marked with the owner's name, they ensured that each patron would be shaved with lather from his own mug.
