This is a really nice #21 Watt Pottery cookie jar in the Starflower pattern. The jar is a yellow color and is hand decorated with one large red 5 petal starflower and three green leaves. It is marked U S A, Oven Ware and has the number 21 on the bottom. This pattern was first introduced during the early 1950’s.
It has some manufacturing imperfections which are normal with a handmade pottery item. It has lines going down both sides of the jar that seem to be imperfections in the glazing. There are about three tiny rough spots on the inside rim. The inside is nice and clean and has one small dark spot. The bottom base is a little rough in spots. The lid has three hairline cracks. Overall the jar looks good for show and is in good usable condition. It is really quite nice and would make a nice addition to a collection or a great decorative item for the kitchen.
The cookie jar measures approximately 7 1/2” in height and 7” in diameter.
Watt Pottery started business during 1922 when family member purchased the Globe pottery in Crooksville, Ohio. During 1935 the company discontinued making these items and began focusing on hand decorated kitchen and ovenware items such as banded and decorated mixing bowls, spaghetti bowls, canisters, covered casseroles, nappies, cookie jars, ice buckets, pitchers, handled French casseroles, bean pots, salad sets and dog dishes. Buff colored pieces were hand decorated with bold brush strokes of red and green. Sadly, the Watt Pottery was destroyed by fire October 4, 1965.
