Love the size and shape of this wonderful bowl. This is a really nice #96 Watt Pottery open baker bowl in the Apple pattern. It is a promotional advertising bowl and is marked on the inside “In Appreciation Rock Rapids Co-op Creamery”. The bowl is a yellow color and is hand decorated with one large red apple and three green leaves. It is marked with the number 96, Watt Ovenware, U S A on the bottom. This pattern was first introduced during 1952 and continued to be produced for about ten years.
It has crazing which is expected due to age and has a couple of stains. It has some manufacturing imperfections which are normal with a handmade pottery item but is in overall good condition. The bowl is really quite nice and would make a nice addition to a collection or a great decorative item for the kitchen.
The bowl measures approximately 2 3/4” in height and 8 1/2” in diameter.
Watt Pottery started business during 1922 when family member purchased the Globe pottery in Crooksville, Ohio. They initially produced stoneware jars, jugs, milk pans, mixing bowls, churns, preserve jars and chicken waterers, Their early pieces were marked with their Trademark Acorn. During 1935 the company discontinued making these items and began focusing on hand decorated kitchen and ovenware items such as banded and decorated mixing bowls, spaghetti bowls, canisters, covered casseroles, nappies, cookie jars, ice buckets, pitchers, handled French casseroles, bean pots, salad sets and dog dishes. Buff colored pieces were hand decorated with bold brush strokes of red and green. Sadly, the Watt Pottery was destroyed by fire October 4, 1965.
