This is a very lovely and scarce copper luster sprig decorated ironstone plate. This type of china is also known as Grandmother’s China. The border has raised sprigs decorated with copper luster. It dates to C. 1840. Chelsea sprig is similar to Chelsea grape but has a sprig of flowers instead of grapes.
It has the maker’s mark on the back. It is impressed on the back “Porcelaine a la Perlè J. E.” We have not yet identified the maker with 100% certainty, but the manufacturer is probably James Edwards.
The plate measures approximately 9” in diameter.
The plate has crazing consistent with its age. It shows some wear and utensil marks. There are some imperfections around the rim. There is a small ding or imperfection on the back on the rim. There are no cracks or other chips. Manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust bump and unevenness in the glaze, etc. Please be sure to look carefully at the pictures for condition.
