This is a beautifully decorated small pine domed top document box. The entire box, excluding the bottom has been covered with straw in an intricate pattern. It originates from central Pennsylvania and dates to around the mid 1800’s. There are losses to the straw veneer in several places, but overall the box is quite a treasure. Please see pictures for losses. It is signed on the bottom with the name of the owner. The name is worn but it looks like is reads John Mc Alister. There is also a piece of lined paper tacked to the inside domed top. The writing on the paper reads, “This box together with all the papers in it of all and every kind belongs and has reference to the estate of James Mc Alister. Alex M. McAlister & Andrea McKinney Executors. It measures 91/2" long by 7" wide by 51/2" high. It has a rolled metal latch. It has been priced to reflect condition.
