This lovely brush or toothbrush holder would have been part of a larger wash set with a pitcher, basin, chamber pot and other pieces. It dates to around the mid 1800's. It has a scalloped rim with embossing around the rim, throughout the body and along the foot. It has festoons decorated with a cheerful orange around the body and along the rim. It has small flowers painted around the rim and around the body. It would be wonderful if this piece could be reunited with its original wash set, but it is still fabulous on its own. It can also be repurposed to hold flowers or as a decorative shelf piece.
It measures approximately 4 ½" in diameter and 5 ¾" high. It is unmarked.
The condition is very good. This piece has no crazing, cracks or chips. There is heavy wear on gold luster that once decorated the foot.
