This is a very lovely pate sur pate pottery pitcher. The inside of the pitcher, the handle and the paste appliqué are a mustard yellow color. There is a beautiful mirror like brown glaze over the body of the pitcher. There are raised flower motifs under the rim of the pitcher. The body of the pitcher has ornate fern like columns and classical figures of women in relief.
The pitcher is unmarked. We believe it is English in origin and dates to around the late 1800’s.
There is crazing on the yellow glaze and some minor imperfections in the manufacture. There are a few small cracks in the appliqué which may have occurred during application. There are two hairlines along the inner rim that are approximately 1” long.
The pitcher measures approximately 5” in diameter and is 6” high. It measures approximately 6” from handle to spout.
