This is a very nice light blue transferware soup bowl by John Ridgway in the University pattern. It is marked on the back with the maker’s mark and the pattern. The mark dates the plate to circa 1845. There is also an impress mark on that back that is indecipherable.
The bowl has ten sides and a beautifully decorated border. There are flowers in blue around the rim and five scenes or cartouches of university buildings. The center has a lovely scene with a stone fence and gate, people, trees and buildings.
The overall condition of the bowl is good but there is defect in the front. There is expected light crazing consistent with age.
It measures approximately 9 1/4” in diameter and 1 1/2” deep.
