This is a lovely early pink transferware plate from the T. J. & J. Mayer Longport pottery in the Garden Scenery pattern. The manufacturer’s mark is stamped on the back. It has a pretty floral border. The center of the plate has a romantic scene with a lady, a child and a gentleman standing in front of a lake. There is a castle on the other side of the lake and flowering trees. A bridge is on the left and a covered shelter on the right in the foreground. The plate is 14 sided.
The plate dates from 1843 to 1855.
It measures approximately 9 ¼”.
Manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust bump and unevenness in the transfer, etc. There is expected light crazing consistent with age. There are no cracks or chips. It is in very nice condition. Please be sure to look carefully at the pictures for condition. This is a really lovely item and an increasingly difficult pattern to find.
