This vintage necktie with its autumn leaves outlined against the blue grey background is a truly a special tie. The fabric is a blue-grey silk twill with a very light sheen. Two leaves have been hand painted with iridescent fabric paint in fall colors of russet, green, and golden yellow. They are outlined in a champagne color and glint just a bit in the light. There are also two small flowers in red and green. One of the amazing things about this tie is that the painted designs are still nearly complete with hardly any paint loss, an unusual circumstance with this type of mid-century technique. I can only speculate that it is in such good condition because it was saved for special occasions. The decorative label says “Individually Hand Painted and Made in California.”
The necktie measures 50 inches in length and is 3 ¼ inches wide at the tip. It is in fabulous vintage condition with the exception of having been ironed flat at some point in the past. It has no spots, stains, thread pulls, or holes, and there are no scents. It has been professionally dry cleaned. This is an exemplary 1940’s necktie with a classic design.
