This 1950’s gold lame evening bag is simply splendid! The clutch is softly structured and covered with gleaming gold lame material which is slightly gathered across the top. It has a gold-tone metal hinged frame. The purse closure is quite unique, combining a rocking clasp with a lift-up closure. The lift-up mechanism looks like a decorative button covered in gold lame material and framed in gold. The clutch is lined in champagne-colored corde, and there are no pockets. The “HL U.S.A.” is imprinted on the fabric between the two hinges for the convertible chain.
The clutch measures 9 ½ inches by 6 inches, and the chain has a 5 ½ inch drop. There are a couple of light marks on the lining, but it is in otherwise in excellent vintage condition. There are no holes, tears, or scents, and the gold lame has no stains or spots. This wonderful little handbag brings to mind great moments in music and fashion such as Elvis Presley in a gold lame suit on the cover of his 1959 album or the gold lame dress Marilyn Monroe wore in 1953 in “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.” Fabulous! Irresistible!
