This vintage leather handbag combines versatility and pizzazz. It can be used as either a shoulder bag or a clutch. The design is created of strips of genuine snakeskin topstitched in a diagonal pattern, creating a mosaic of earthy shades and natural patterns. The bottom section of the front and the back of the clutch are tawny shades, and the top of the flap is buff colored. The purse has an envelope flap with a magnetic closure. It opens to reveal an interior lined in two shades of tan leather and has a zippered pocket and a slip pocket. The Varon label is imprinted on the front of the slip pocket.
The convertible chain is a textured cable with a very nice weight which can be detached from rings inside the flap. This 1970’s convertible clutch measures 8 by 12 inches, and the chain has a 17-inch drop. Varon Handbags Ltd of New York opened in 1966 and created fashionable and distinctive handbags until they closed in 1995. This fabulous clutch is an early example of their quality work and is in excellent vintage condition, showing little use. There are no spots, stains, holes, or scents, and the stitching is tight. The snakeskin is in excellent condition with no tearing or flaking. This is a distinctive and stylish bag, both practical and exotic.
