This late 1950's handbag combines a classic Kelly style with a faux reptile pattern, taking vintage fashion for a walk on the wild side. The black vinyl has a light sheen and is realistically embossed with a tegu lizard pattern. The purse is designed with a central front panel embellished with a small tab. Slightly puffed sections are stitched to each side, giving the bag a designer appearance. The classy look is accentuated by a substantial band covered in the faux lizard which runs across the top of the bag. It has a hinged frame and opens with a decorative rocking latch to reveal a metal zippered pocket, a smooth faux leather lining, and faux reptile accents. Four little metal feet protect the bottom. Although this is a very well-constructed handbag, there is no maker’s label, which is not unusual for mid-century handbags.
The handbag measures 8 by 12 inches and is 3 inches across the bottom. The handle has a 6 inch drop. There are some light scratches on the rocking clasp, but it is otherwise in marvelous vintage condition. It shows minimal use with tight stitching and no cracked vinyl, rips, stains, holes, or scents. This 1950’s Kelly handbag is classy and fabulous!
