This little black corde handbag is so 1940’s! The structured purse has a hinged frame which is covered in corde fabric. The double strapped handle is also corde and has a decorative band at the apex of the handle. The purse’s silhouette gives a hint of fashion to come as it has some features of the famous 1950’s Kelly bag, but it is smaller and the sides are more rounded. The oval rocking latch is gold-toned with a white pearlized lucite center and tiny flowers embossed on the back. The purse is lined in light peach taffeta.
The handbag measures 6 by 9 ½ inches with 2 inches across the bottom, and the handle has a 4 ½ inch drop. There is no maker’s mark which is fairly common with handbags of this period. The lining has some marks and smudges, and the exterior of the handbag has some rubbing along the edges, a few tiny spots, and one small pressure dent. The bag is otherwise in remarkable condition with no frayed edges, stains, holes, or scents. This little handbag is a fabulous example of 1940’s fashion!
