This necklace features a wolf’s head pendant on a necklace of tiger eye beads and golden accents. The wolf’s ears are raised and the eyes are focused, highlighting the fierce qualities of this remarkable creature. The pendant is in shades of bronze with the head encircled with a ring and a second ring held in the wolf’s mouth. I chose tiger’s eye tube beads to compliment both the colors and the symbolism of the wolf pendant. Gold-tone cut-out beads with a cross-hatch design are interspersed, and the tube beads alternate with round tiger eye beads. A hook clasp with a rope pattern completes the design.
Tiger eye is one of my favorite gemstones to work with because of its fascinating qualities. At first the tawny colors seem sort of unassuming, but then the light catches them just so, and “bam!” there’s that flash of rich coloration. In a way, the beads are like their counterpart in nature which blends in until just the right moment. These elements make them a perfect companion for the wolf pendant.
The necklace measures 21 inches in length, but this can be adjusted if you would like. The pendant measures 1 1/8 inches by 1 ¾ inches. Tiger eye was favored as a gemstone by Roman warriors because it was thought to have protective powers as well as assisting in being all-seeing. The stone has also been worn to bolster convictions and self-confidence, giving strength in adversity.
The wolf has been significant to cultures the world over. Wolves are part of the Native American tradition, and they appear in folklore and legends from ancient Egypt, Rome, India, and Northern Europe to name just a few. While some cultures gave the wolf negative qualities, many celebrated wolves for their strength, courage, and loyalty. The wolf also takes an important place in modern stories such as the direwolf in Game of Thrones, Shasta of the Wolves, and Final Fantasy Advent Children which inspired the design of this pendant. Ancient symbolism is combined with the contemporary design of this necklace for a dynamic look.
