Nevada turquoise beads, a gorgeous turquoise pendant, clear blue apatite beads, and sterling silver combine to create this necklace. The result is exquisite! The focal pendant features a large teardrop shaped turquoise cabochon in a robin’s egg blue with a coppery matrix. It is set in a 925 sterling silver bezel which has a wide band embellished with a herring bone pattern. This pattern is continued on the bail of the pendant.
The body of the necklace is created from genuine Nevada turquoise rounded nuggets of an outstanding quality and a lovely color. Each of the turquoise beads is held between oval apatite beads which are a beautiful match to the Nevada turquoise. The hand cut apatite beads are a lovely turquoise color and have wonderful clarity. I separated the pairs of apatite beads with antiqued sterling silver heishis with a beaded design. At the ends of the necklace, pairs of Hill Tribe silver tube beads lead to a sterling silver hook clasp to complete the design.
The necklace measures 20 inches in length, and the pendant is 1 ¼ by 2 inches. Turquoise has traditionally been considered a truth stone and is also believed to improve mental clarity. It has a tradition of protective qualities, and warriors attached turquoise to their arrows to ensure a true aim. Some cultures believe that turquoise helps achieve a connectedness with the universe. It is believed that apatite can stimulate thoughts and ideas as well as helping the wearer find inner harmony and peace. What a combination of powerful elements augment the design of this exquisite necklace!
A note about the turquoise used in this necklace. The turquoise in this necklace came from the family of a miner who worked in the Austin Nevada area mines from the 1920’s to the 1960’s. When the jeweler supplier had the turquoise stabilized and cut, the color was not enhanced, so the fabulous color of the stones is natural, and the turquoise is old and rare.
