Deeply intense blues of genuine lapis lazuli mingle with sparkling crystals, blue stars, and sterling silver creating a look that is both luxurious and elegant. The focal pendant features an oval lapis lazuli stone set in a 925 sterling silver bezel with a fine ridged embellishment. The pendant captures the intense blues of lapis, encapsulating the colors of that magical part of the day known as “l’heure bleue” or “la hora azul.” I chose lapis lazuli beads which are liberally flecked with pyrite and remind me of a starry sky. The blue magnesite stars expand on the night sky theme. The lapis beads and magnesite stars alternate with sparkling light blue Swarovski crystals, and sterling silver hill tribe tube beads and a silver hook clasp complete the design.
The necklace measures 18 ½ inches in length and the pendant measures 1 by 1 ½ inches. The name Lapis Lazuli is derived from the Latin word for stone and the Arabian name “azul” which means “blue.” Lapis lazuli was one of the first gemstones ever to be used in jewelry and was reserved for royalty. It is considered a healing stone and is thought to be a gemstone of truth, harmony, and friendship. These powerful qualities enhance a necklace of stars, sparkling crystals, and luxuriant blues that seem to capture the deepest blues of twilight.
