This rainbow tourmaline and peridot choker with matching earrings combines sparkling premium grade gemstones with gold stardust beads and gold vermeil. The result is exquisite! Both the peridot and the tourmaline have been cut into dainty beads from premium grade stones of wonderful intensity and clarity with very few inclusions. They have been expertly micro-faceted, and the glitter from these tiny gems is amazing. I arranged the tourmaline in trios of like hues, separating the trios with gold-filled stardust beads which add to the sparkle. Pink and red hues were chosen for the central section of the choker with the rubelite tourmaline in the center, moving outward to the pinks.
Leading away from the central section, trios of peridot alternate with trios of tourmaline, creating a fabulous array of colors with maximum sparkle. The final section which leads to the toggle combines gold-filled stardust beads with 14Kt gold-filled bicone beads. A gold vermeil toggle embellished with swirls and a rope pattern complete the necklace design. Gold vermeil is sterling silver which has been plated in 22Kt gold.
To create the earrings, I chose a combination of tourmaline in a variety of hues, peridot, gold stardust, and gold bicones, looped them, and suspended them from gold vermeil French style earwires. The earrings measure 2 inches from the piercing, and the choker measures 15 ½ inches in length. Both the tourmaline and the peridot are dainty beads, measuring 3 mm in diameter, giving the necklace a slender profile.
In today’s world, tourmaline is the birthstone for October. Tourmaline has been a favored gemstones and has adorned the jewelry of royalty dating from at least 2,400 years ago. Tourmaline makes its appearance in ancient legend as well as jewelry. In one ancient Egyptian legend, the gemstone traveled along a rainbow on its way to the sun, accumulating an array of wonderful colors. Tourmaline is traditionally believed to be a healing stone, calming nerves and dispelling negativity and fear. It was also believed that tourmaline protects the wearer against danger.
Peridot is also a unique and special stone. Most gemstones are created in the earth’s crust, but peridot is created deep in the earth under pressure and high temperatures. It has also been a favored gemstone through time and is the August birthstone. Historically it is believed to have been the favorite gemstone of Cleopatra as well as pirates. In ancient times peridot was considered a healing stone as well as providing protection from danger and negative emotions.
The design of this necklace combines the richness of symbolism with the elegance of gemstones.
This jewelry has been created with genuine gemstones of exceptional quality. Both the rainbow tourmaline and the peridot are natural and have not been heated or color-treated. The peridot is AA grade, and the tourmaline is A grade.
