These angel coin earrings have been hand-crafted from Andorra commemorative one centim coins dated 1999. The front of each coin features an angel with outspread wings carrying a sheaf of wheat. The initials FAO appears under the angel. FAO stands for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations which encouraged countries to promote food and agriculture production by using this designation on their coins. Along the bottom are the words "Aliments Garantits Pel Segle XXI," meaning "food guaranteed by the 21st century" or "food for all."
The reverse side of the coin displays the Prince of Andorra crown and a laurel wreath. This is bordered with the date 1999 and "Joan D.M. Bisbe D'Urgell I Princip D'Andorra." This tiny country is located in the Pyrenees mountains between France and Spain and is ruled the co-princes, Spanish Bishop of Urgell and the President of France. The authentic Andorran coins I used to create these light-weight earrings are made from aluminum and measure 22 mm in diameter which is about 7/8 of an inch. They hang from French-style earwires and measure 1 ¾ inches from the piercing. These shimmering earrings with their affirmative message and lovely angels will add a bit of light to your day.
