These earrings have been hand-crafted from the Austrian Schilling with its lovely Edelweiss design. The vintage coins are dated 1983 and 1964. The elegant design features an Edelweiss plant with three blossoms. The coin is bordered with the denomination, "Ein Schilling." The reverse side gives the 1 Schilling denomination, includes the phrase, "Republic Sterreich," and gives the date. The coins measure 7/8 inches in diameter and the earrings measure 2 inches from the piercing of the French hook.
The Austrian Schilling was phased out of circulation after the introduction of the Euro, so these coins are no longer in production. The Edelweiss depicted on these coins usually grows at high altitudes and in inaccessible places. Its white color is considered a symbol of purity, and it is sometimes known as the Queen's Flower. In many countries the Edelweiss is a protected plant. The coins have been polished to a shine which will shimmer in the sunlight or at a candlelit table.
Please note: Because I have created these earrings from authentic vintage coins, there are signs of wear on the coins.
