Offered is a huge hand carved painted two part urn architectural element / newel post or garden decor folk art piece. Whether your decor is shabby Paris chic , farmhouse / country primitive, industrial, or gothic steampunk, this piece will fit the bill. I'm not exactly sure what this piece was originally intended to be used for. There are nail holes on the bottom so it was at some time attached to something else. The top does come off, but the inside is not hollow, there is a just a small slot where the lid fits in. I've enjoyed this piece over the years as a decorative accent and use it when photographing my mannequin for jewelry sales. It is quite weathered and has been painted more than a few times over the years. The paint is chipping down to the bare wood in places which are also weathered. It is a large piece measuring about 19" tall x 13" across. It is quite heavy. It is quite old, probably dating to the turn of the century, late Victorian or Edwardian. The carving is beautiful and deep. Obviously made by a skilled craftsman or artist. It may have been part of an advertising display ...... really just not quite sure. I find it quite lovely in all it's distress and years of weathering.
