'Lake Landscape' belongs to the mature 1980 period of the artist. The palette focuses on the different tonalities of bright and soft blue. The inclusion of warmer shades of earth, brown and yellow is confined solely to a defined iconographic purpose.
Carlo Ruffinelli Biography
1923 Born in Foligno, Italy
1940- 1948 Worked as a graphic designer at Aer-Macchi. He is attracted and inspired by the emerging avant-garde but is oriented, and remained later in his career, a figurative and portraiture artist.
1948-1963 Begins a longstanding relationship with the Umbrian Master Ugo Scaramucci (1883-1970) and for 15 years he was his only scholar.
1970-1980 Begun frequent travels to Rome and studied at the Swiss Art Academy. Started exhibiting yearly at the important Festival of the Two Worlds at Spoleto. He obtained important portraiture commissions; notably the portrait in 1982 of the then fashionable actress Barbara Bouchet became one of the most iconic image of the 1980s in Italy. Exhibited at the Fantauzzi show at Trevi in 2000
2001 Died in Spoleto, aged 78 years.
