Even though there are no pears on the branch that the bird sits on, I have always thought of this as similar to the drawings depicting the partridge in a pear tree! Beautifully detailed, the large brooch is set with two chrysoprase cabochons and one lapis cabochon and is marked on the back '925' and also has the British import marks for sterling silver and a year date which unfortunately is tiny and slightly worn, so I cannot read it. It also has a maker's mark which looks like 'GM'. Although the brooch has a very Art Nouveau look I would think that it is probably no more than 20/30 years old.
The Brooch measures just under 3 inches across and 1 3/4 inches down and fastens with a 'C' clasp.
The Brooch is quite substantial and is in excellent condition with no damage.
