A fabulous Art Deco rhodium plated Brooch set with beautiful Fruit Salad poured glass stones made to imitate the carved rubies, emeralds and sapphires that were set in Cartier's "Tutti-Frutti" fine jewelry pieces of the time. With 7 flower pieces set in the centers with small rhinestones - to imitate the diamonds that were set in Cartier pieces - which are placed around 3 apple shaped glass stones, with a floral design border set with clear rhinestones, the Brooch sparkles fabulously, particularly in artificial light but still looks amazing in natural light. Being imitations of Cartier pieces, these must have been quite popular when they were made but are rarely found today making me think that they were quite expensive for costume jewelry at the time.
The very slightly domed Brooch measures 2 1/8 inches side to side and 1 1/2 inches top to bottom, and fastens with a safety clasp.
In excellent condition with no damage to the fruit salad glass and no missing or dull rhinestones - there are 3 clear rhinestones in the border which must be old replacement stones as they are not faceted whereas all of the others are. These still sparkle beautifully and the difference in the stones can only be seen using a jewelers magnifying glass so they do not spoil the appearance of the brooch.
