A lovely vintage carved shell Cameo in a silver frame. The Cameo features the figure of a young boy standing on a shell chariot being drawn through the water by two horses. The pin on the brooch is stamped with what I think are the numbers for the silver standard but they are difficult to decipher but possibly read either '800' or '900' meaning that the brooch is a slightly lower grade than sterling silver.
The Brooch measures 1 5/8 inches across and 1 3/8 inches down. It fastens with what was a roll-over safety clasp but the roll-over part is missing leaving what is in effect a 'c' clasp. However, once fastened to fabric, the clasp still holds the brooch securely.
Apart from the clasp, the Brooch is in good condition. There is a stress line running in the middle of the brooch - in the dark part between the boy and horses - but this is only visible if the brooch is held up to the light so does not detract from the appearance of the brooch.
