Fine Petit Point Purse with 6 ¼" x 6" with the tiniest of hand done stitches. It dates from about 1890 - 1900. Both sides of the purse have a scene of a boat on a lake, several figures and a castle at the water's edge. The castle appears to be Chateau de Chillon on Lake Geneva in Switzerland, a popular destination for the wealthy elite of the time.
The scene is framed by flowers and fruit. Both sides of the purse have the same scene. Viewed under magnification, the workmanship is amazing, with perfectly done stitches and expert detail. The interior is tan satin with one side pocket. I find no stains or tears. The brass frame has an incised design and small dangling charm set with marcasites at the clasp. Part of the frame is set with beveled glass stones – one stone is missing, and this is the only defect in an otherwise wonderful purse.
