Hand made lace crocheted bodice or yoke, from about 1900. It was probably part of a nightgown or robe. Lace was commonly saved and added to new garments - all these hours of work could not be wasted! T
he bodice is ecru cotton. There is a pattern of birds and flowers. The lower edge is 56", and it is about 5" wide. The front is designed to overlap, so it could be made into a garment that fits a range of sizes. It has short sleeves, with an opening of 10". Condition is very good.
I have not laundered this piece or attempted repairs. There is minimal soil, and two small defects at the bottom where the fabric has been removed. The handiwork is very skillful and this piece is sturdy, especially considering the age.
