Hand carved French ivory or celluloid daffodil pin. This material was developed in the late 1800's as an ivory substitute, and was frequently used in souvenirs from Switzerland and Austria in the early to mid 1900's. The pin measures 1 1/8" across, and the clasp is affixed with tiny screws.

This represents the wild Narcissus poeticus or "Poet's Daffodil" native to central Europe. This historic flower has been mentioned in literature and botanical writings for over 2000 years.
