Victorian cameo earrings, circa 1860 - 1870. Each earring is 5/8" x 2",including the setting and ear wires. The cameo portion is about 3/8" x 1/2".
The cameos are hand carved and each is unique. One is in excellent condition, the other has a fracture, clearly shown in the photos. The fracture is stable, and firmly in place (no wiggle).
There is a gold filled "twisted ribbon" setting and drop at the base. The ear wires are modern replacements, European-style wires that prevent loss. The earring came with a new-ish velveteen box.
The Biblical story of Rebecca at the Well was used in many pieces of jewelry just after the Civil War. Rebecca is revealed as the chosen bride for Abraham's son Isaac, as she demonstrates kindness and virtue.
