American art glass tumbler in the Venetian Diamond pattern, also called Inverted Thumbprint pattern. This piece was most likely made by the New England Glass Company in the mid 1880's, as they held the original patent for Amberina glass.
Amberina glass was made by mixing a compound including gold in the glass and reheating the object as it cools. This produced a rich shading from deep red to a golden yellow.
The tumbler is 3 3/4" high, 2 1/2" across the top and 2 1/4" at the base. The pontil is neatly polished. There are no damages, but there are a few internal bubbles, as one expects in handmade glass. It rings when gently tapped.
