Victorian Gold Filled Locket with Floral Engraving and Blue and White Enamel
Very beautiful Victorian locket, dating from about 1885. It is 1" (24 mm) long, not including the ring, and about 5/8" (16mm) wide. It is not marked, but has been verified by a jeweler to be 12K gold filled.
The decoration is highly ornate with engraved flowers and an embossed border. It opens to reveal two photos; a dapper man with a moustache and a young woman. There is dark blond hair pressed behind the woman's photo - I'm afraid a few strands have escaped in the photo. The locket is in very good condition with slight loss of the white enamel decoration.
I will be happy to remove or trim the hair if it bothers you. Keeping a lock of hair of a loved one was common in sentimental Victorian times.
I often have vintage gold filled chains in stock at nominal cost. Please ask if you are interested.
