Lovely old Victorian hanging parlor lamp. It has an ornate brass frame, marked "The Improved Patented July 19, (18)97". It has been electrified, probably about 50-60 years ago, and works, as is - but we always suggest replacing old wiring for your safety. According to the former owner, this lamp was originally in the parlor of a small hotel in Nauvoo, Illinois. It was in storage for many years, then refurbished for the owner's home in the 1960's. The owner is an older lady and needs to downsize, so this is a great opportunity to acquire a wonderful old lamp at a reasonable price.
Included in the frame are the brass frame, shade crown, and smoke bell. It hangs about 28" long and 18" at the widest point. The original mechanism to raise and lower the lamp was stabilized with a thick wire some time ago.
The cranberry glass shade is 14" across and about 5 1/4" high. It has no cracks, chips, hairlines, or any damage at all. There are also 41 prisms. The owner did not have these on the lamp. 19 of the prisms are old and original, 22 are "new" replacements, circa 1960. There is also a package of wires or pins for placing the prisms. The prisms are not uniform in size, and range from about 3.5" - 5".
It is I regret that the photos are not the best. We arrived as the lamp was being taken down. We have additional photos available by request, most taken in the owners home while the lamp was still in place. The glass chimney was broken, and is not included. Replacements are readily available, and we can supply one at cost.
Shipping cost is a high estimate, and any excess will be refunded. The shade will be mailed separately to ensure safety. Pickup can be arranged in the greater Annapolis/Washington DC area.
