Beautiful red, black and gold silk obi, purchased in Kyoto, Japan by a globe-trotting friend. approximately 50 years ago.
It is vintage, but "new", still in the original bag, though the bag is in poor shape. The obi is approximately 8 1/4" wide and 11 feet long. It is stiff brocade material and the same on both sides.
It would be quite elegant on display or as a table runner. The crane is a symbol of happiness and eternal youth, the chrysanthemum flower is, of course, a symbol of Japan.
Condition is perfect.
