Roses are for love, romance and weddings!
Hand Painted porcelain plate with roses, 8 3/4". The plate has a celadon background with pink and red roses.
In the late 1800's and early 1900's, lessons china painting was a popular pass-time for well-to-do ladies, as well as respectable employment for talented women who needed extra income. Flowers, especially roses, were the most beloved motif. Most of the porcelain blanks were imported from Europe, particularly France and Germany. AK France produced porcelain blanks from about 1890 - 1910.
This plate is unsigned. The former collector also had a similar plate, listed separately, signed L. De H. They are so similar in style that I feel both plates were made by the same artist.
There is the slightest wear to the painting, but the plate is in otherwise excellent condition.
