Pair of deep red ginbari cloisonne vases, 7" high, 4 3/4" at the widest point and in excellent condition. These vases date from the early to mid 1900's and have had one previous owner. They have an elegant classic urn shape with a rounded shoulder.
Ginbari is a wireless cloisonne technique. The silver base is covered with a dimpled foil, which in this example, has an underlying pattern of birds and bamboo or marsh grasses. The foil is covered in a deep red translucent glass and polished to a smooth sheen. This technique was developed and perfected in Japan. The additional photos will give you a closer picture of this beautiful and subtle technique.
The silver rims are probably sterling, but I hesitate to do further testing . We would like to keep the pair together, but will consider offers for one.
