Framed art tapestry, dated 1925. The woven jacquard tapestry shows a man in 18th century dress in what appears to be a rural village.
This tapestry is 8 1/2" x 11 1/4". It was made by the La France Art Company. It has a dark teal blue and gold colored wooden frame. Jacquard tapestries are made by weaving the colored threads - the picture is not printed. Please note how the weave and texture is used throughout the tapestry to suggest the stonework and clouds.
Decorative tapestries, such as this, were part of the Arts and Crafts Movement of the early 1900's. There was a greater appreciation for artisan works and older crafts, and an idealization of a simpler pre-industrial life.
This tapestry is dated 1925 by the original owner. I have a second tapestry, offered separately, and would love to keep them together; free US shipping if you buy both!
