Lustrous apple green jade pendant, purchased in Thailand in the mid 1970's. The pendant is 1 1/16" x 5/16" (25mm x 11mm). It is carved on both sides with a gourd or melon motif. One side has leaves and a curling tendril, the other has leaves and a stem. The gourd or melon is a symbol of family, fertility and growth.
The jade itself is a bright and lustrous apple green, semi transparent, very smooth, nicely carved and polished.
It is fitted with a gold bail, marked BF and 14K on the inside. The flat herringbone chain necklace is 18" and 4.3g. It is marked 14K, Italy.
The jade pendant was purchased at Uthai's Gems in Bangkok and is still in the original pouch (included). The chain may have been purchased separately. Uthai's is still a well known and respected jeweler in Thailand, and a favorite of the embassy crowd in Thailand.
I am listing a few other jade pieces purchased at Uthai's - but this is the nicest!
