Handpainted porcelain pin or brooch with purple pansies. 1 5/8" x 1 3/4"
These hand painted brooches were most popular from about 1890 - 1920. Pansies were a popular flower, second only to roses, due to the similarity between the word pansy and the French "pense". Thus, by giving this brooch, it would mean 'think of me' or 'I think of you' in the language of flowers.
The color of the flowers is a red-violet. The color may not be true on your monitor- please ask if you have questions.
The backing is brass with a c-clasp. There is very little wear to the painting, but there is a small brush mark or spot of paint in the upper left.
