Large hand painted porcelain pin or brooch, 2 1/2" x 1 5/8". The picture is subject is inspired by the painting "The Age of Innocence", by Sir Joshua Reynolds. The Reynolds painting was done circa 1788 and now hangs in the Tate Gallery. The subject a young girl in a yellow dress. She is seated in a woodland, her hand are clasped and she has a wistful or dreamy expression. The scene is outlined in gold paint.
The style of painting and shape of the porcelain blank dates this to approximately 1900 - 1910. Porcelain painters of this era often copied details from well known classical art.
Condition is excellent, with no surface scratches or loss of paint. Very, very minor wear is seen under magnification.
The backing is brass, with a c-clasp. The pin stem is slightly curved from use.
